13TH WUKF EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS CUP

The Transylvania Karate Cup and 13th WUKF European Champions Cup was held over 10th & 11th December in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca. The event brought together over 900 athletes from 14 participating countries including Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Denmark, USA, India, Ukraine, Pakistan, England, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, Georgia, and Switzerland.

The event was hosted the Federatia Romana de Karate WUKF and was a tremendous success. Attendees were delighted to experience an excellent competition and warm welcome from the host federation. Dr Liviu Crisan, WUKF World President said: “It was a pleasure to welcome so many athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators to Cluj-Napoca once again with a high standard of Karate on display throughout.”

WUKF EGYPT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The WUKF Egypt National Championships was held over 23rd & 24th December 2022 in Cairo.

Speaking after the event Professor Essam Shreif, WUKF Ambassador to Afro-Asia Region, said:

“I would like to congratulate all the athletes, coaches and referees for their hard work and an excellent tournament. I’m especially proud of all the Inclusive Athletes who performed with such distinction in their categories. The WUKF continues to grow in the region and we look forward to continued success.”

WUKF SOUTH AFRICA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

WUKF South Africa was delighted to host the WUKF South Africa National Championships and Africa Open at the Boardwalk Hotel and Convention Centre over Friday 31st March to Sunday 2nd April 2023 in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).

VIP Guests in attendance included Councillor M.B Kamana, the MMC for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture for Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and Roy O’Kane – WUKF Executive Committee Member and Chief Operating Officer.

The Championship attracted 15 WUKF affiliated Southern African Federations with a combined total of over 600 competitors, 1200 individual entries and over 60 officials.

Categories on offer included Kata, Kumite, Inclusive Kata and Combat, Kobudo Long/Short Weapons and the WUKFs signature Shobu Sanbon Rotational Team Kumite. For the first time in South Africa, WUKF Shobu Ippon Rotational Team Kumite was also included on the programme.

The Championship catered for children from 6yrs of age to adult veterans and included novice, intermediate and elite categories.

The Championship met with WUKF SA’s vision of “Karate for All” ensuring the event was affordable and accessible.

Above all was the spirit, camaraderie and friendship which permeated the entire event – this exemplifies the true essence of WUKF and WUKF SA.

WUKF REFEREE SEMINAR – ENGLAND

A Special Referee Seminar was held in Epsom on Saturday 4th March with 35 officials in attendance. The seminar featured a presentation on our updated rules with several countries present.

Also in attendance was Dr Liviu Crisan (WUKF World President), Mr Roberto Perri (WUKF General Secretary) and Mr Roy O’Kane (Chief Operating Officer).

Thanks to Dr Essam Shreif, Mr Jacky Wergifosse, Ms Mandy Mcnulty and Mr Pete Priest of the WUKF Referee Commission for their presentations.

WUKF BRITISH OPEN KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS – LONDON

The WUKF was delighted to host the inaugural WUKF British Open Karate Championships on Saturday 11th February in Crawley (London) at the K2 Arena.

The WUKF was delighted to host the inaugural WUKF British Open Karate Championships on Saturday 11th February in Crawley (London) at the K2 Arena.

The event brought together over 650 athletes from across the UK and further afield for one of the largest sport Karate events in the United Kingdom.

In attendance to support the event was Dr Liviu Crisan (WUKF World President) and Mr Roy O’Kane FRSA (WUKF Chief Operating Officer).

Speaking after the event, Mr Roy O’Kane said: “This event was an important step for the WUKF in the United Kingdom and it was great to see so many athletes from the across the Karate community attend in the spirit of cooperation and enjoyment of their sport. Thanks to our organising team and hardworking officials for their support.”
